Climate action
Soitec places the fight against climate change at the heart of its sustainability strategy, with a clear ambition: to reduce its carbon footprint, strengthen the resilience of its operations to climate risks, and support the transition of the semiconductor industry towards a more sustainable model.
In 2021, Soitec committed to the SBTi to reduce its emissions by 25.2% in absolute value by 2026.
To achieve this, Soitec is implementing a decarbonization strategy based on three pillars, with concrete actions across its entire value chain:
- Reducing emissions at the source wherever possible, either by consuming less or by using lower-impact products
- Reusing resources and recovering value whenever possible
- Using green energy to power its industrial sites
Water resource conservation
Water is one of our planet's most precious resources and is also essential to Soitec's operations. To reduce its water consumption, Soitec has been implementing a water management strategy for over 10 years, structured around three key areas:
- reduce water withdrawals through targeted actions, optimization of industrial processes and efficient monitoring tools;
- recycle water used at certain manufacturing stages through innovations such as the reuse system;
- reuse recycled wastewater.
The company adopts a transparent approach aimed at balancing industrial needs with those of local communities.
Soitec has set itself ambitious goals:
- Reduce water withdrawals per production unit by 50% between 2020 and 2030
- Achieving a rate of reuse of 50%
At the same time, Soitec is monitoring the quality of its wastewater discharges and is seeking to improve by optimizing its processes, in order to limit its impact on the environment.
Responsible innovation
Through our "Greenovation" eco-design initiative, we systematically integrate environmental factors into the design and manufacturing of our advanced substrates. Life cycle assessments (LCAs) are conducted to measure environmental performance throughout the entire lifecycle, from manufacturing to end-use applications, helping our innovation teams improve future product lines.
Our products are designed to enhance energy efficiency and performance in end-use applications, from 5G mobile communications and electric vehicles (EVs) to Edge & Cloud AI infrastructure, helping our customers reduce their overall carbon footprint.
Our commitment to environmental excellence, attested by the ISO 50001 and ISO 14001 certifications of our main industrial sites, underlines our belief that technological leadership and environmental responsibility reinforce each other.
