My name is Sébastien Golliet and I’m a process integration technician in the POI team within the engineering department. I’m responsible for prototypes and contribute to process improvement on the production line. My job bridges the gap between innovation and production: I help prepare the industrialization of new products while optimizing the processes.
From chemistry to microelectronics
After earning a DUT in chemistry, I completed my training with a degree in chemical production and water treatment, which gave me a solid technical foundation for the rest of my career. I then started working in various startups in the field of microelectronics.
What I appreciate about Soitec
Since joining Soitec in 2007, I’ve had the opportunity to work on different products in roles related to engineering and development. What I enjoy most about my job is that there’s no routine. I’m constantly faced with new development and process optimization challenges to support the industrialization of new products. It’s a true continuous improvement dynamic, we act as the link between innovation and production.
This cross-functional role requires collaboration with many other departments: process, IT, and even finance. Working with such a wide range of teams and finding solutions together is extremely rewarding.
A commitment that drives me
I am the treasurer of MONO’GRE, a unicycle sports club based in Grenoble. It’s a niche sport with around 900 licensed riders in about thirty clubs across France. There are many disciplines within unicycling: athletics, downhill, freestyle, and also team sports like basketball and hockey. It’s a very complete, yet still little-known sport that brings together a true community of enthusiasts.
My responsibilities include managing memberships, sports licenses, and equipment. I also lead a Saturday morning training session to introduce new riders or help more experienced ones improve. My volunteer work varies throughout the year but usually amounts to several hours per week. We organize a few events each year, including a unicycle basketball tournament.
I discovered unicycling about ten years ago and immediately embraced the spirit of mutual support within the community. The joy of sharing a passion and meeting new people naturally led me to volunteer.
A memorable moment was organizing the World Championship in Grenoble. Seeing the Clémenceau arena packed with hundreds of unicyclists from around the world, along with many curious spectators, was simply incredible.
Skills that complement each other
Unicycling enriches how I work. Adaptability, listening, and sharing knowledge are qualities I apply daily at Soitec, where I interact with people from very diverse backgrounds. The reverse is also true—my professional discipline is a great asset in managing the club.
Another side of my personality
Outside of work, I devote a significant amount of my free time to gardening, an activity I love. I even share tomato seedlings with my colleagues from time to time!
