My name is Julie Dubois, and I’ve been working as a financial controller in the Finance department for nearly 4 years.
My journey in finance
A graduate of EM Lyon, I worked for 4 years in financial auditing at PwC before joining Soitec’s Finance team.
When I arrived, I started in industrial controlling, focusing on operations and supply chain. Over time, my responsibilities have expanded to include support functions (communication, HR, finance, legal…), which now gives me a cross-functional view of the company’s activities.
In finance, there is a strong regulatory and standards-based dimension, but we’re lucky at Soitec to be in direct contact with operational teams. I really value this proximity to the field teams, which brings a concrete impact to our work.
A meaningful human adventure
I’m involved in the association L’Abri sous la Dent, which provides emergency shelter for people experiencing homelessness. The organization runs two houses, one in Crolles and one in La Terrasse. Each week, the volunteer teams welcome six to seven individuals referred by the 115 (the French emergency social services hotline). Stays last one week, with a weekly rotation.
What’s unique about this structure is that the guests can stay on-site all day, which is not always the case in other shelters.
I’m part of the “welcome” team. We greet the guests on Wednesday evenings, check in with them two to three times during the week, and make sure everything is going smoothly. I also help out with events, such as food drives. Recently, I joined the board of directors, which allows me to contribute to organization, communication, and various projects. It’s a very flexible commitment that adapts to everyone’s availability - sometimes just a few hours a month, sometimes more, depending on availability.
What I was looking for through this volunteer work was a way to step out of my professional routine. It’s a way to stay grounded, to be confronted with realities we don’t usually come across in daily life. It brings perspective and meaning.
What moves me the most are the human connections. Some guests speak very little, others open up more. Simply being there, offering them a peaceful week, listening without judgment - that matters a lot. It’s a beautiful human experience that I want to keep sharing.
Another side of my personality
I live in the Grenoble area because I enjoy the mountains, even though I’m not a big athlete. I’m closely connected to the ultra-trail community, a discipline practiced by my partner, which is a unique experience blending nature and sport. It gives me a real escape from daily life, and from numbers.
