My name is Frédérique Voisin-Demery, and I am an IT Domain Specialist within the IT team, part of the CIM group (Computer-Integrated Manufacturing). I have been contributing to the automation of our manufacturing processes for over five years.
A Career Rooted in Industry
With a PhD in computer science, I chose not to pursue a career in research after completing my thesis. I spent 17 years working for IT service companies as a subcontractor, particularly in the energy and semiconductor sectors.
After those experiences, I was curious to explore the client side of the industry. So, when a position that matched my profile opened up at Soitec, I seized the opportunity to join the company.
My job at Soitec
Our team manages all the software used in production: PROMIS, OCS, automation tools, SPC, and more. I’m specifically in charge of SPACE, which enables Statistical Process Control (SPC) to detect deviations in the manufacturing process, and RMS, which ensures recipe security for equipment. I also work on automation depending on project needs. In short, our role is to guarantee the automation of manufacturing processes.
What I particularly enjoy about my job is the variety of tasks: we work on both technical aspects, related to IT, and more functional topics. Collaborating directly with the production teams is also very rewarding — the impact is immediate, which gives meaning to what we do and makes our work feel tangible.
My volunteer commitment
Alongside my professional activity at Soitec, I’m a volunteer and co-founder of the Nature and Mountain Photo Festival association. Our goal is to organize a free annual photo festival in Montbonnot-Saint-Martin, showcasing nature and mountain photography. The event brings together about a dozen photographers — some invited, others selected by application — as well as stands and talks. We are committed to offering high-quality exhibitions with a diversity of styles and perspectives. This year, we welcomed 1,400 visitors.
As treasurer of the association, I handle accounting, grant applications, and sponsorship searches. I also help select the photographers and organize all aspects of the festival, from setting up displays to welcoming the public. On average, I dedicate one to two hours per week in the months leading up to the event, with busier periods when assembling application files.
I joined this project because I’m passionate about photography. When members of my local photo club wanted to create a festival nearby, I was excited to get involved in something new.
One of my most memorable moments is our very first festival. We had no idea how successful it would be, and it far exceeded our expectations. The large number of visitors, the energy we poured into the project, and especially the bond within our small team remain unforgettable.
What Soitec and Volunteering Bring to Each Other
My experience at Soitec helps me structure the association’s work: clear tracking, indicators, and a solid vision of what we’re building. Volunteering, in turn, brings balance and fresh perspective to my professional life.
And outside of all that?
I would love to travel to Japan. I read a lot of blogs and listen to several podcasts on the subject, which really makes me want to visit the country.
