Soitec CEO André-Jacques Auberton-Hervé Elected Chairman of the Newly Formed SOI Consortium
BERNIN, FRANCE, October 8, 2007 - Soitec (Euronext Paris), the world’s leading supplier of silicon-on-insulator (SOI) wafers and other engineered substrates, today announced that the company is a founding member of today’s newly established SOI Industry Consortium (www.soiconsortium.org). In related news, Soitec also announced that its CEO, André-Jacques Auberton-Hervé, has been elected by the consortium’s charter members to serve as the first chairman of the new international organization.
The SOI Industry Consortium is a non-profit organization composed of 19 founding companies spanning the entire electronics industry infrastructure. The SOI Industry Consortium’s mission is to accelerate SOI innovation into broad markets by promoting the benefits of SOI technology and reducing the barriers to adoption.
“As one of the pioneers of SOI, the launching of the SOI Industry Consortium is a thrilling moment,” noted Auberton-Hervé. “Soitec’s participation to the Consortium is driven by the needs of the end users, and as such aims to cover the full value chain: from circuit design and substrate engineering to manufacturing, packaging, and system integration. At each step, we have seen how SOI increases performance and functionality and decreases power consumption and costs. Working together, sharing best practices and reaching out to the greater electronics community, we can bring these advantages to broad new markets for the benefit of one and all.”
About the SOI Industry Consortium: The SOI Industry Consortium is chartered with accelerating silicon-on-insulator (SOI) innovation into broad markets by promoting the benefits of SOI technology and reducing the barriers to adoption. Representing leaders spanning the entire electronics industry infrastructure, SOI Industry Consortium charter members include: AMD, ARM, Cadence Design Systems, CEA-LETI, Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing, Freescale Semiconductor, IBM, Innovative Silicon, KLA-Tencor, LAM Research, NXP, Samsung, Semico, Soitec, SEH Europe, STMicroelectronics, Synopsys, TSMC and UMC. Membership is open to all companies and institutions throughout the electronics industry. For more information, please see www.soiconsortium.org.
About the Soitec Group: The Soitec Group is the world’s leading innovator and provider of the engineered substrate solutions that serve as the foundation for today’s most advanced microelectronic products. The group leverages its proprietary Smart Cut™ technology to engineer new substrate solutions, such as silicon-on-insulator (SOI) wafers, which became the first high-volume application for this proprietary technology. Since then, SOI has emerged as the material platform of the future, enabling the production of higher performing, faster chips that consume less power.
Today, Soitec produces more than 80 percent of the world’s SOI wafers. Headquartered in Bernin, France, with two high-volume fabs on-site, Soitec has offices throughout the United States, Japan and Taiwan, along with a new manufacturing site under construction in Singapore.
Two other divisions, Picogiga International (Les Ulis) and Tracit Technologies (Bernin), complete the Soitec Group. Picogiga focuses on delivering advanced substrates solutions, including III-Vs epiwafers and gallium nitride (GaN)-based wafers, to the compound material world for the manufacture of high-frequency electronics and other optoelectronic devices. Tracit, on the other hand, focuses on thin-film layer transfer technologies used to manufacture advanced substrates for power ICs and microsystems, as well as generic circuit transfer technology for applications such as image sensors and 3D-integration. Both shares and convertible bonds for the Soitec Group are listed on Euronext Paris.
Soitec, Smart Cut and UNIBOND are trademarks of S.O.I.TEC Silicon On Insulator Technologies.
