Soitec receives Motorola Supplier Recognition Award

Bernin, France, June 13, 2002 - Soitec, the leading manufacturer of silicon-on-insulator (SOI) wafers for use in semiconductor manufacturing, today announced it has been named the recipient of a “Supplier Recognition Award” by Motorola’s Semiconductor Products Sector (SPS). Motorola SPS recognized Soitec for its outstanding support of Motorola’s successful 1GHz embedded microprocessor launch with Soitec’s UNIBOND® SOI material. Soitec supports Motorola SPS in today’s competitive chip industry with volume quantities of proven, advanced material that enhances the performance and power consumption of Motorola’s advanced microprocessors. In a challenging business climate, the ability to meet sudden supply changes while maintaining high quality is key to remaining a strong, world-class supplier. By naming Soitec a recipient of this award, Motorola SPS acknowledges Soitec’s ability to deliver on very short notice, while living up to its commitments and business model. “We are honored that Motorola has given us this award in a category that highlights our commitment to delivering the technology and services that our customers need on time, every time. Our goal is to help our customers meet their toughest challenges. This award reinforces the fact that we are serious about working with our customers to help them develop cutting-edge technology and meet tight time-to-market deadlines,” said Andrew Wittkower, president of Soitec USA. In operation since 1998, Soitec’s first production site, Bernin I, recently reached full capacity, making it the world’s leading and largest SOI industrial production plant. The company will formally open Bernin II, its new 200- and 300-mm manufacturing facility, in September 2002. Built to respond to exponentially growing demand, this factory, when fully equipped, will raise Soitec’s annual capacity to more than 2 million 200-mm equivalent UNIBOND SOI wafers. Soitec’s ongoing growth has been accompanied by cost controls and continued productivity improvements. As a result, Soitec now possesses the necessary industrial resources to respond to strong market growth. With its exceptional reactivity, flexibility, and human and industrial adaptability, Soitec delivers both the volumes and the quality of Smart Cut®-enabled products its customers need.
