Managing environmental impacts in accordance with ISO 14001
Our Bernin site received ISO 14001 certification in 2001. Since then, we have set up an Environmental Management System to ensure compliance with the standard. Follow-up audits are conducted each year, while renewal audits take place every three years. The system has never been cited for any major non-conformance during these audits.
The system has expanded as the company has grown, gradually integrating our new production sites in Grenoble and Singapore. The scope of the system will be broadened to encompass our sites in southern Paris and in Freiburg, Germany once they have received ISO 14001 certification, expected in late 2011.
Five key objectives
The objectives of the system are to:
- Provide a framework and methods for improving environmental protection at Soitec
- Comply with regulatory requirements
- Reduce the consumption of water, gas, and electricity; minimize the amount of waste produced; and limit the emissions and effluents released into the air and water
- Draw up emergency response plans for environmental accidents
- Raise Soitec employees’ awareness of environmental issues, provide employee training, and ensure that outsourcers comply with Soitec rules
