Protecting the environment is an integral part of our business at Soitec. The very purpose of our leading product — SOI — is to reduce the electrical consumption of integrated circuits by an average of 30% at constant performance levels. A growing number of electronics manufacturers are today turning to “Green SOI” to boost their products’ energy efficiency. Another pillar of our business is solar energy. Because it has the capacity to generate photovoltaic energy at very competitive rates, our Concentrix™ technology has a promising future.
During the first half of 2012, Soitec will conduct its first carbon balance all sites.
The environment is also a key concern when it comes to our manufacturing activities. We have always been proactive in complying with — and outperforming — environmental standards and regulations. We obtained our first ISO 14001 certification in 2001. This certification is now unique in that it covers multiple sites, enabling us to ensure consistent rollout of our environmental strategy worldwide.
In 2007 we stepped-up our environmental efforts with an ambitious plan to reduce our water and energy consumption. This plan rapidly yielded substantial savings: in Bernin, we cut our water and electricity use by 4% and 5%, respectively.
We also measure our carbon footprint at regular intervals. We reduced our CO2 emissions by 12% between 2009 and 2010 in our Bernin, South Paris and Singapore sites. During the first half of 2012, Soitec will conduct its first carbon balance all sites; it will integrate all production sites and all subsidiaries.
